A popular Canadian painter, Vladimir Horik was born in Edmonton, Alberta and has lived near Saint Hilarion, Quebec (Charlevoix region) since the early 1960s. He has been painting since 1960 and, after serving 10 years in the Canadian Army as a paratrooper, has devoted himself to art full-time since 1965.

His primary medium is oil paint on canvas or Masonite. His primary subjects are landscapes and rural Quebec scenes; frequently depicting houses and snow, and his primary style is Fauvism*. However, Horik has also worked in acrylics, pastels, pencil, ink, serigraph* and mixed mediums and his subjects have also included portraits, still life, scenes in France and the Rocky Mountains, as well as pure Abstraction* (e.g. color, shape, line and texture).
